Student reading Llama Llama to Dabo and Mr. Jelinek.

Clemson Elementary has partnered with the SC BARK Program for several years, giving students a special opportunity to build their reading skills alongside a furry friend.

Each week, Mr. Tom Jelinek and Dabo the Dog visit Clemson Elementary to read with a group of second grade students. Through the SC BARK Program, volunteers and their calming therapy dogs encourage students as they practice reading aloud in a relaxed and supportive environment.

Our students especially enjoy the opportunity to share their favorite stories with Dabo. Recently, one second grade student read a Dog Man graphic novel to Dabo, and it looked like Dabo really enjoyed the story.

We are grateful to the SC BARK Program, Mr. Jelinek, and Dabo for helping our students grow as readers while making reading fun and memorable.
